A passionate advocate for underserved communities, Reverend Demus founded MAADD to bridge the digital divide and promote personal and economic development through the use of technology in low-income and minority communities across the country. Under his leadership MAADD expanded to six states plus Washington DC where the organization advocates for technological solutions that will empower underserved communities .
Reverend Demus developed his roots in social justice during his longtime affiliation with Rainbow PUSH and through his tenure as the executive director of the Chicago South Side branch of the NAACP. He was also the chief organizer for the Million Man March.
As a voice for the voiceless and a drum major for social justice, Reverend Demus had a vision to pull low income and minority communities out of economic despair and into a wealthy and powerful constituency. With this mission he started a movement that transcends him in death – a movement to transform the economic, social, political and cultural landscapes in our nation’s minority communities. MAADD’s leadership and 100,00+ membership will carry on this effort as a part of his legacy.
